Maya Calendar Jokes

For a while, I had this gadget attached to my page (I wrote the PHP program that generates it):

It was a take-off on the comic by Randall Munroe, at the link within the above box.  The comic was making fun of the doomsayers who said the world was going to end on December 21, 2012 (or maybe the 20th or 22nd).  Anyway, the idea behind the joke was to count down the days to December 22, when everyone would abruptly stop discussing the topic, due to the fact that the world didn't end.

Actually, this isn't the only joke I got out of the Maya calendar thing.  I did a "Tip of the Week" at work that introduced the first tool of the upcoming conversion to the Maya calendar: A command that allowed the user to convert to and from the Maya calendar dating system. I wrote this carefully serious but tongue-in-cheek article on how the command would help us and how it was carefully designed to go 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 days in the future or something like that.  Of course, that article came out ... on April 1, 2012.
